Problem:
How many grains in one kilogram of wheat?

Equipment:
Balance
or small kitchen scales, Wheat grains from seed merchants or health
food shops.
Follow
the steps and solve this problem:

Draw
a 10 cm square and look at a grain of wheat. |

Estimate
how many grains will fit flat into the 10cm square.Write answer
in table below. |

Spread
grains flat within 10 cm square, make sure there are no gaps,
and then weigh them. Write answer in table below. |

Count
how many grains in a 10 cm square by; |

Counting grains directly from 10 cm square. (If this seems
to be taking too long, you may like try (b) ) |

Draw a 1 cm square and spread grains flat within square,
make sure there are no gaps. Count the grains and multiply
the number of grains by 100. This answer will give an
approximate number of grains as in a 10 cm square. Write
answer in table below. |
