Professional Development

Learning in the Garden

Supporting teachers to integrate edible gardens and vegie patches into schools curriculum.

Wednesday 24th June - Pyramid Hill (9.30am - 3.00pm)

Friday 14th August - Myuna Farm, Doveton (9.30am - 3.00pm)

Friday 11th September - Port Phillip EcoCentre (10.00am - 3.30pm)

We will also be offering two new Professional Development Workshops this year:

Connecting to the Land
Exploring our connection to the land through the food we eat and grow, as land managers, consumers and decision makers. This session includes an introduction to 'Biodiversity Up Close' a simple biodiversity audit tool that can be used to develop an action plan for an area and show students the factors needing to be considered by land managers.
Wednesday 8th July - Edendale Farm, Eltham (10.00am - 3.30pm)

Food for the Future

beaks and feet
Exploring how food availability and farming decisions are affected by climate change and other influences. Will our diets be changed in the future? How will our food be farmed? Can we ensure food security? Climate change will impact on farming practices and food production in Victoria. The workshop will also incorporate an overview of LandLearn resources and the support we offer teachers.

To find out more or to register for these workshops go to www.landlearn.net.au > teacher support & PD > pd calendar (click here).

LandLearn will also be offering fieldtrips at the Geography Teachers' Association of Victoria Conference (Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th August - Sacred Heart Girls College, Oakleigh). The fieldtrips will be 'Murray Darling Basin in one day' and 'Braeside Park - Salinity in an Urban Landscape'. For program information or to register go to www.gtav.asn.au

A Dynamic Team

LandLearn would like to introduce you to two of our newest team members.

Alice Clanchy is a LandLearn Education Officer based at Tatura. She develops and delivers professional development and field trips. Alice is enthusiastic about translating 'real world' occurrences into fun and engaging learning activities that make students think.

Lisa Hawken is a DPI Young Scientists Education Officer based at Tatura. She develops and delivers programs that are designed to engage secondary students in real DPI science projects.

Also this term, LandLearn team members, Sheree and Jenny, are heading off on maternity leave. We wish them all the best and look forward to having them back on board in the future!
