I
am responsible for developing analysis methods,
training staff, troubleshooting, maintaining quality
and food quality systems. I work in a team to
maintain the efficient running of the lab and
technical functions.
BACKGROUND:
I
grew up in the Adelaide Hills, which has probably
influenced my choice to live in the country.

I
have completed a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) at
Flinders University, SA.
Secondary:
I
chose to study science subjects in order to keep my
choice of university courses open.
Work
experience:
I
completed a summer vacation scholarship into the science
of bubbles at the Ian Wark Research Institute during
University.

Further study:
There
are opportunities for me to do heaps of different
things, such as following the scientific pathway
to do my honours, masters, PhD in subjects such
as chemistry, food science, nutrition etc.
Learning
on job, new skills, etc.
Learning
on the job is important in my role. I am continually
picking up management and people skills and learning
about legislative requirements.

Travel,
etc.
I
have been on a graduate program with Southcorp and have
therefore travelled to different sites. I also attend
conferences and seminars on a regular basis.
ADVICE TO STUDENTS NOW:
My
advice to students of all age groups is to do something
that you really enjoy and then you will do well, be
happy and succeed.
Tertiary
students
Doing
some work experience is really useful. Life experience
and people skills are unbeatable!

My
advice to students is to have balance in their lives
and take time to enjoy their achievements.
What
careers have other graduates from your course entered?
Many
went into research, similar jobs in mining and completely
unrelated jobs!
