Description of work undertaken:
Some of the general duties that Bailey carries out on the Dairy farm include; milking, hay making, irrigating, fencing, animal husbandry, pasture management and financial management.

Team and / or individual role / responsibilities:
As a share farmer, Bailey's primary responsibility is to effectively operate and manage the dairy farm.

Future?
In the future Bailey hopes to move into a career in Earth Contracting/Plant Operation.

BACKGROUND:
Grew up where?

Bailey grew up in Toolamba, Victoria where he has lived all his life on his family's dairy farm.

Course(s) studied:
Tertiary /post secondary:

Bailey has completed a Dairy Traineeship through Goulburn Ovens TAFE, Shepparton.

Secondary:
There were no courses at Bailey's school that prepared him for this type of work.

Work experience:
Bailey has undertaken work experience in a variety of working environments, including working as a mechanic (small motors) and at Shepparton Toyota. He has worked continually on his family's dairy farm carrying out general farm duties. He has also worked for a contract hay making business and as station hand on a broadacre farm in Mungindi, Queensland.

In the future Bailey hopes to complete a Financial Management course.

Learning on job, new skills, etc.
Bailey believes that he is always learning on the job and developing new skills while working on the dairy farm.

ADVICE TO STUDENTS NOW:
students up to Year 10

Bailey believes that Year 10 students should concentrate on subjects such as English, Maths and Science. He also suggests keeping options open by choosing such subjects in VCE.

VCE students
Bailey believes that students should start thinking about available career options and courses He also suggests concentrating on subjects which may be prerequisites for Tertiary courses.

Tertiary students
Bailey suggests that Tertiary students should develop their communication skills by being involved in such activities as public speaking. Good communication skills are important in any job situation.

OTHER:
What careers have other graduates from your course entered?
Bailey's peers have moved into areas of artificial breeding, genetics, dairy farming, share farming, rural/dairy consulting and furthered their tertiary studies in Agriculture.
